Who can conduct an interment?
At the time of a burial or placement of ashes in a niche, an Anglican minister will be involved. The cost is currently a maximum of $400. Civil celebrants are not permitted to conduct funerals in our church buildings or cemeteries.
On-line cemetery software available
Our cemeteries are managed using an on-line program - www.chronicle.rip. On this site you are able to locate and view our cemeteries. Plots are colour-coded as follows:
Green: vacant plots/niches
Blue: occupied plots/niches
Yellow: reserved plots/niches
Grey: unavailable plots (this may be due to the terrain, inconvenient location etc)
Our cemeteries
Our Parish manages six cemeteries, listed below. Burial plots are available in five of them and columbarium niches are available in four of them. The geology of the cemetery at Henry Street is such that plots are only able to be single-depth. Other cemeteries allow for double-depth plots.
All burials and placements of ashes must be arranged through the Parish Office. A funeral director can assist with this although a funeral director does not need to be involved for the placement of ashes in niches.
Sorell - St George’s Cemetery, 16 Gordon Street. The burial ground is closed. Columbarium niches are available.
Sorell - 42 Henry Street Cemetery. Burial plots available.
Richmond – St Luke’s Cemetery, 6 Wellington Street. Burial plots and columbarium niches available.
Forcett – Quarry Road. Burial plots available.
Colebrook – St James of Jerusalem Cemetery, 28 Arthur Street. Burial plots and columbarium niches available.
Koonya – St Alban’s Cemetery, 496 Nubeena Road. Burial plots and columbarium niches available.
Plots and niches may be pre-purchased. When a reservation has been completed a document called an Exclusive Right of Burial Certificate is issued, the term of which is 25 years. What this means is that if a plot or niche is not used within 25 years of the reservation, the Exclusive Right lapses unless the reservation is renewed. Should the plot or niche be used during the 25 years, the Exclusive Right is in place in perpetuity.
Opening hours: Summer: 6 am to 9 pm. Winter: 8 am to 5 pm

Our cemeteries have security / surveillance from time to time.
Please be quiet and respectful of other visitors to the cemetery.

Care and maintenance of individual burial sites is the responsibility of associates of the deceased. In accordance with the Burial and Cremation Act Regulations (2019) we now require all cemetery works to have the written authority of South East Anglican Parish prior to commencement of any work.
